Dental Veneers

Dental operatory room with exam chair at The Implant Center at Comprehensive Dental in Lincoln Park, NJ Dental veneers are a popular cosmetic dentistry option that transform a person's smile fast and efficiently. Veneers are customized to fit over the front surface of a patient's teeth. They correct many dental imperfections, such as discoloration, chips, cracks, gaps, and misalignments.

Benefits of Dental Veneers

First, cosmetics. Veneers instantly enhance the appearance of teeth, and provide a natural looking solution for patients with stained or discolored teeth that don't respond to whitening treatments.

Second, versatility. Veneers address multiple cosmetic concerns simultaneously. Shape, size, color, and alignment issues.

Third, they aren't invasive. A crown placement requires significant tooth reduction, but veneers require minimal alteration to the tooth structure.

Fourth, they're durable. Porcelain veneers provide long lasting results when cared for properly.

Lastly, stain resistant. Porcelain veneers are less prone to stains from coffee, tea, wine, and other common staining substances when compared to natural teeth.

Types of Dental Veneers

Porcelain Veneers are custom made in a dental laboratory based on impressions of the patient's teeth. They are known for their durability, natural appearance, and stain resistance.

Composite veneers are made from a tooth colored composite resin material. They are more affordable than porcelain veneers and require less tooth enamel removal, but they are not as durable, and are more prone to staining.

Dental Veneers Procedure

The process of getting dental veneers involves several steps. First, a consultation with our team where we evaluate the patient's oral health and discuss their cosmetic goals to determine if veneers are the best option. If the patient is deemed a suitable candidate for veneers, we prep the teeth by removing a thin layer of enamel to accommodate the veneers.

An impression is then taken to create custom veneers that match the patient's natural teeth. While the permanent veneers are being fabricated in a dental laboratory, temporary veneers may be placed to protect the prepared teeth. Once the custom veneers are ready, they are bonded to the front surface of the teeth using dental cement. We ensure that they fit perfectly, and that the bite is aligned before permanently bonding them into place. After placement, we may make minor adjustments, but only as necessary.

Dental Veneers Maintenance

Proper maintenance is essential to prolong the lifespan of dental veneers, and that begins with great oral hygiene. Regular brushing, flossing, and routine dental visits are crucial for maintaining the health of natural teeth and veneers. Porcelain veneers are stain resistant, but patients should still avoid food and beverages that stain to prevent discoloration. In addition, we advise patients to avoid excessive force exerted by biting down on hard objects or using their veneered teeth as tools. This prevents chipping and other damage. Lastly, routine dental check ups allow us to monitor the condition of the veneers and address any issues quickly.

Dental veneers offer a quick cosmetic solution to enhance the appearance of teeth, and provide natural looking results with minimal alteration. Whether opting for porcelain or composite veneers, patients can enjoy improved cosmetics and increased confidence in their smile with a simple procedure.
