Benefits of Dental Veneers
Lincoln Park, NJ

Dr. Rana and staff treating patient in exam room at The Implant Center at Comprehensive Dental in Lincoln Park, NJ Veneers are used in dentistry and are made of a thin layer of composite or porcelain material placed on the visible surface of a tooth.

Dental veneers protect the teeth from damage and improve the aesthetic look of teeth. They are bonded permanently to the teeth and help treat an array of cosmetic problems like chipped and broken teeth, discolorations, and staining, and even averagely shorter or smaller teeth.

Veneers are sometimes used to repair one tooth; however, they are usually placed on six to eight front teeth to achieve complete symmetry.

Please visit us at The Implant Center at Comprehensive Dental for an exam and to see if veneers are right for you.

Types of Veneers and Their Benefits

Veneers are commonly made out of composite resin material or porcelain.

Composite Veneers

Composite veneers can either be directly built in the mouth or indirectly fashioned in a lab using a mold impression and later attached to the teeth using dental concrete.

•  They are mostly preferred for patients who would require other permanent fits in the future.
•  They can last up to four years with the proper dental care.
•  During placement of these types of veneers, little or no enamel is removed, requiring fewer dental visits, often just one for a built-in option.
•  Composite veneers are also less costly than porcelain veneers and are quickly and easily fixable in case of damage as compared to porcelain veneers.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers, on the other hand, may only be fashioned indirectly. This means that molds are placed on teeth surfaces to create impressions sent to the dental lab for fabrication. Porcelain veneers require the removal of enamel before they are placed and match the color of the teeth; however, they can also be made whiter to brighten one's smile. After custom-made, they are placed and bonded on the tooth surface.

They are difficult to fix if they break or chip. The installation period is relatively extended and would take up two to three dental visits. A mold or impression has to be taken and sent to the lab after the tooth is prepped by shaving off some enamel.

•  Porcelain veneers cover more damaged teeth and are long-lasting - up to 20 years!
•  They do not stain easily and are less prone to chipping and fracture than composite resin.

Am I a Candidate for Dental Veneers?

One has to have healthy teeth and gums before veneer treatment. Decayed teeth cannot be veneered. These restorations are not preferred for people who grind and clench their teeth as they can wear out faster.

Caring for Your Dental Veneers

It is vital to maintain a good oral hygiene practice to ensure the durability of your veneers, preventing them from becoming loose. You should also avoid biting on complex objects and contact the dentist in case of breakage or if bite symmetry changes after they are installed.
