Should I Be Worried About My Tooth Stains?
Posted on 7/15/2024 by The Implant Center at Comprehensive Dental
Your teeth cannot stay perfect and pristine forever. When your permanent teeth first erupt, they are beautiful and white. However, over time, they can become discolored. If you are concerned that your teeth are not the gorgeous shade of white you wanted, here is some information about the type of stains that may be on your teeth and how you can work to whiten them back to a bright white.
What Do My Tooth Stains Mean?
You may not know this, but the color of your tooth stains can tell us a lot about dental problems you may be having. Here are some indications of the tooth stains and dental issues you might notice.
Brown or Yellow Teeth
There are a couple of reasons why your teeth may be stained brown or yellow. If you are a tobacco user, the chemicals in tobacco can stain your teeth brown or yellow. If you want to reduce the stains from tobacco on your teeth, you may want to limit your tobacco use.
Your teeth may also have brown or yellow stains from drinking a lot of coffee or tea. If you brush your teeth immediately after you drink coffee or tea, you can reduce the impact of drinking caffeine on your teeth.
Gray or Blue Teeth
Sometimes, adults can suffer from gray or blue-tinged teeth. If you have gray or blue teeth, your tooth may have dental caries, which are holes in your teeth caused by bacteria. This type of discoloration can also happen if you have had trauma to your mouth, such as if you get hit by a ball. In this case, if you notice you have blue or gray teeth, you need to come and see our dentist to determine if we can save your teeth through a filling or a root canal.
